A Four Season Recreational Paradise
The East Grand Lake Area, is a premiere place to Fish for large Landlocked Salmon, Lake Trout & Brook Trout. But it doesn’t end there; most varieties of fish live in the clear, cool waters of our lakes and are likely to grab your bait. This includes a very healthy population of Bass. The open water and Ice fishing can be exceptional.
Hunting is another popular activity in the East Grand Lake area. Abundant Grouse and Woodcock coveys keep the wing shooters busy and our zone 11 has the 4th highest number of Moose Permits granted each year. Bear and Deer are also sought after game as well as a growing population of Wild Turkey.
Cruising the lake on Motor Boats, Sailboats, Canoes or Kayaks, is a great way to spend a relaxing, day while enjoying the Beautiful Scenery. In addition there are numerous rivers in the area, some with Class 1&2 Rapids that can challenge the paddlers.
US Route 1, in the EGLA between Danforth and Weston, was designated a scenic roadway and named the Million Dollar View Byway. Beautiful view sheds abound but those of Mount Katahdin and the East Grand Lake Waterway are the most photogenic. Also the view from the renovated fire tower atop Peekaboo Mountain is a 360 degree menagerie of it all.
Bird Watching is phenomenal in the area and hard to find species such as the Spruce Grouse, Golden Eagles, and the Boreal Chickadee can be seen with just a bit of knowledge & good luck.
If you are into ATV’ing or Snowmobiling the area has hundreds of miles of the most scenic trail you could hope for. Trails are well maintained by the local clubs and have a combination of wide open trail sections for those with a need for speed and sections that are more adapt to cruising so you can enjoy the scenery. Most of these trails are part of the Interconnected State Trail System that can lead you anywhere in the state or into Canada.
The East Grand Lake Area is a “must place to visit” for everyone that enjoys the type of beauty and serenity that earned Maine its slogan “The Way Life Should Be”.
